[clamav-users] still can't have ScriptedUpdates on a private mirror?

We know of work-arounds like clamdownloader.pl. (I've been tempted to
throw together my own work-around, using some curl commands.)
But we don't want to hack something together to make up for Clam AV's
deficiencies. We want freshclam to *just work* when using a private
mirror, without taking the massive performance hit of being forced to
disable ScriptedUpdates on the mirror. For years, that simply hasn't
been possible.
Now, finally, it *seems* to be possible, using the PrivateMirror
option... but the PrivateMirror implementation is either badly broken,
or functions in a manner radically different from what its description
states.
To repeat, we're very grateful for all of the hard work of the Clam AV
developers. But it is simply maddening that this one critical feature
has been absent for so long... and when finally added, doesn't work.
