It may. It depends on the Linux distro and if they have updated the package. Unfortunately we don't maintain the packages and some of the package maintainers don't respond.

Generally this means that we just won't regression test signatures against that version anymore.

Can you be a little more specific about the manner in which this will take place? Does it just mean no support or do you plan to poison pill the database so the engine will no longer function, as has happened in the past.

One step needs to be to EOL 0.97.x releases (as we should have done when we released 0.99, as per our EOL plan). As those older versions don't accept certain types of signatures.
