There are not and have never been guarantees that any particular Linux 
distribution would always have the newest version of a particular package. You 
need to be prepared to deal with Linux issues personally. Some vendors have 
stopped supporting the version of PHP that is standard in Centos 6, for example, 
and there's no information as to if or when Centos might provide an RPM update 
to the current release of PHP or even make the version that is in Centos 7 
available to Centos 6. Sometimes you just have to build from source.
