[clamav-users] Improving clamscan speed?

Did some additional testing:

"clamscan -v --stdout -r" and "clamdscan -v --stdout" take approximately the same time.
They both use all of a single core on my quad-core machine (25% of the available CPU
cycles). Running "clamdscan -m -v --stdout" completes in approximately 1/4 the time, but
it uses essentially 100% of my available CPU cycles.  Even starting the file manager took
20 or 30 seconds with that scan running.

Comment on other responses:
- Eliminating files with --exclude:  I agree that this is a good strategy, but it doesn't
solve the base issue.  Once I'm comfortable with the speed of operation, I'll definitely
do this as a refinement.
- Smaller file size:  I don't know what this is for clamscan, but the default for clamd
(if I've understood correctly) is already set to 25Mb (and 150Mb of extracted archive data).

I added this info to bugzilla too.

HTH!
