It's for PERL Regular Expressions: pcre.org

You'll probably see some notices for some signatures not loading due to not
having the library, but it should still work.

Example:

[LibClamAV] cli_loadldb: logical signature for
Pdf.Exploit.CVE_2018_19717-6818331-0 uses PCREs but support is disabled,
skipping

[LibClamAV] cli_loadldb: logical signature for
PUA.Java.Packer.Allatori-6687596-0 uses PCREs but support is disabled,
skipping

Subject: [clamav-users] pcre2-devel needed?

I apologize in advance if this is not the right place to ask a question. If
its not, please let me know the place to ask questions.

Is it needed to install pcre2-devel for ClamAv to work properly? I seem to
be able to run a scan, it gives warnings about it not being installed, but
the scan seems to still work. I am having difficulties installed pcre2-devel
and all its dependencies so if it's not needed I would rather just skip
installing that package. What does that package do?

Thanks in advance
