You don't see many DOS packages nowadays, but they are still around.
Over thirty years ago, I wrote a package for product warehousing and
distribution in C and C++. Invoicing, purchasing, credit control,
stock control, reporting, all the usual day-to-day business stuff.
It's a multi-user system. It runs on MS-DOS (and FreeDOS, and yes, I
know they're not multi-user systems but one day my mother had an idea,
which, if you didn't also need multi-tasking, and admittedly after I'd
worked on it for a little while, turned out to be a rather good one.:)
Anyway, it's still in use today, and still on DOS, turning over some
millions of pounds per annum. It's never been compromised, although
it does now also run on Linux which I find a little scary. If there's
no network stack you have a lot less to worry about - but not nothing.
