As long ago as February 9th, the ClamAV blog announced the End Of Life
(EOL) for versions 0.99.x and older. Subsequent discussion on this
list clarified (a) that versions 0.10[01].x would not be long for this
Earth, (b) that after EOL it's possible that newly created signatures
may even break for versions which are beyond the EOL, and in any case
(c) that EVERYBODY should be using the most recent version of ClamAV
if only because the newer versions of freshclam mitigate some of the
idiotic demands made on the signature database servers - by malicious
parties and dimwits alike - which have been causing serious problems
for the people who provide ClamAV.
Aside from the fact that running outdated security software as an
alternative to upgrading is asking for trouble, it now also flies in
the face of the pleas repeatedly made by the ClamAV team for everyone
to upgrade ASAP. It's more than just impolite. It's downright rude.
