> We (xs4all, clamav.xs4all.net) had to shut down our mirror at around 08:40 UTC, because the mirror is running on shared infrastructure, and the download deluge was causing problems for other customers.

We (OVH) had similar effects on our infrastructure, but now have
302-redirected download of the most common files to a newer, more robust
infrastructure. We pushed about 1.2 Gbps between 4am and 8am CET, and
0.8 Gbps between 10 and 12.

What would be nice is to have the round-robin use the CNAME we provide
(clamav.mirrors.ovh.net) instead of the IPv4 address, in order to be
more flexible on our side. And we could provide updates over IPv6 as
well :)

Since about 12 CEST, the number of requests seems to have dramatically
decreased.
